The clock is ticking. From today we have a chance to influence the final EU law that could force car companies to produce greener cars.
This afternoon, Lord De Mauley from the UK Department for Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) is meeting with environment ministers from across Europe to discuss a set of rules that could make a big difference in protecting our planet. And he could be a champion to making that happen.
But German carmakers have been trying to trick EU politicians, by saying that the EU's proposal would force them to make more electric cars than they could possibly sell. Not only is this untrue, but they want weaker regulations so they can wait much longer to make greener cars.
Greenpeace activists have been campaigning for VW to stop playing these tricks. Along with the rest of the car industry, we know they have the green technology to roll out now.
We’ve even got Volkswagen to admit they have a problem with their green image – but now we need politicians to take a stand.
